Acceptance Testing Industrial Electronics (VFD’s and PLC’s)
|
Commonly known as "Startup" or "Acceptance Testing" this is an important component in the structure of a complete predictive and preventative maintenance program. Today, all electrical equipment like high voltage switches, transformers, switchboards, etc., are shipped from the factory in top condition having passed numerous test standards. Once the equipment is loaded onto the transportation vehicle, the equipment effectively becomes the responsibility of the customer. The planes, trains and trucks utilized to transport this equipment sometimes provide a rough ride. The transportation and handling of the equipment presents several opportunities for problems. The equipment is heavy and difficult to handle. Mishandling of this equipment can cause damage, some visible some not. By the time an electrical switchboard has been placed in service it has been on a number of trucks and handled several times, each time presenting an opportunity for a problem. A highly trained technician with the use of sophisticated test equipment to verify the electrical integrity of the equipment accomplishes startup services. Electrical and mechanical checks are completed and data sheets (forms) filled out. Electrical testing is completed to manufacturers recommended levels or higher. Mechanical checks are done to check for shipping, handling or manufacturing damage. As a former employee of a large manufacturer our lead technician can attest to the fact that equipment can leave the factory damage or miswired. Trucking or storage companies can mishandle equipment. Equipment can be installed or wired improperly. All these problems can usually be rectified prior to commissioning the equipment with the services of a qualified technician performing startup. After startup services are completed a comprehensive report is provided. This report contains electrical and mechanical checks and any findings and recommendations. The electrical testing that is complete can serve as baseline data for comparative purposes with future maintenance.
